Big Dumb Building

Design Studio Instructor: Andrew Zago

There is an industrial island in Los Angeles wedged between the transportation spaghetti of the 110, Santa Monica Freeway, Arroyo Seco, Metro Gold Line, and Los Angeles River. As housing demand continues to push further east from Silverlake into Echo Park and across Elysian Park, this formerly undesirable area becomes prime real estate. The Los Angeles river rejuvenation proposals only further the necessity for architectural proposals which reimagine this urban area. As a dramatic shift from the former site conditions, this building proposal envisions a massive two million sq.ft. monster positioned to create a place to live, work and play at the intersection of the newly renovated Arroyo Seco and Los Angeles rivers.
